What Is The Cost Of A Celebrity Wedding?

We all love to take a look at celebrity weddings, taking inspiration for our own nuptials, but for most of us, these grand affairs are prohibitively expensive. Some of the biggest celebrity weddings can cost in excess of £100 million, but they can still be the first place for brides to start looking when planning their big day.

Hello Magazine reports that fireworks supplier Fireworks Kingdom have compiled a list of the most expensive celebrity weddings, and highlighted the most popular features, as soon-to-be-married couples seek to make their wedding stand out after 18 months of postponements, cancellations, and restrictions due to the pandemic.

It will surprise no one that of the most expensive celebrity weddings of the past 40 years, the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana topped the list. The event would have cost £110,694,500 today, including expenses such as security, a 100kg cake, and the famous wedding dress fitted with a 25-foot train and 10,000 pearls.

The royal weddings make up the top three, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in the second spot, which is believed to have cost £35,459,020, including the two bridal gowns worth £322,436, and Prince William and Kate Middleton’s £29,592,289 wedding in third place.

Ranking fourth, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries wedding would need a budget of £8,703,615 today. However, it’s rumoured the reality star had the costs covered and even made money from getting hitched due to sponsorships and magazine deals.

The top five is completed by the 2008 wedding of football royalty Coleen and Wayne Rooney, which would now be worth an estimated £6,822,419.

Claire Wilson, Marketing Director at Fireworks Kingdom, says: “Celebrity weddings often cost more because of the scale of the celebrations. With guest lists ranging from hundreds to thousands of attendees, transport and venue choices can cost huge sums.”

She added that several of the wedding features listed can be replicated by anyone to give their big day a memorable edge, but can be done for far less money by using local florists for flowers and cheaper champagne from supermarkets.
