How to Buy Your Wedding Dress Online With Confidence

For many brides, the idea of ordering a wedding dress without trying it on feels like a leap of faith. Yet more and more brides are doing exactly that - and loving the result. Here is how to do it with confidence.

1. Know your shape before you shop

Trying on a few silhouettes anywhere - even in a high-street dress shop - will tell you a lot about what you love. Do you feel best in a fitted fishtail, a classic A-line or a full ball gown? Once you know your silhouette, browsing online becomes much easier.

2. Look at every photo and video

Study the details: the neckline, the back, the sleeves and the train. Many of our dresses have a video showing how the fabric moves, which tells you far more than a still image.

3. Talk to a real person

A video consultation is the single best way to buy with confidence. You can ask about fabrics, how a bodice is structured, what can be adapted and how the dress will feel to wear. Our founder, Kate, is personally involved in every consultation, and there is never any obligation to order.

4. Choose made to measure

The biggest worry about buying online is fit. A made-to-measure dress removes most of that risk, because it is made to your own measurements rather than a standard size. Most of our brides need no alterations at all.

5. Take your measurements carefully

Use a proper guide and, ideally, ask an experienced seamstress to measure you. We check every measurement with you before production begins, so nothing is left to chance.

6. Read the reviews

Look for reviews from brides who were once exactly where you are now. You will find ours on Google and Hitched, and many of them start the same way: I was nervous ordering online...

7. Check the timeline and the policies

Know how long your dress will take, how it will be delivered and what happens if anything is wrong. A good bridal company will make all of this clear before you order.
